Commonly used materials for injection molding

2024-04-10

Commonly used injection molding materials for injection molding include ABS, PC, PE, PP, PS, PA, POM, etc. Different materials have different properties. When choosing processing materials, you can choose according to the performance requirements of the product itself.

ABS

ABS plastic is a terpolymer of three monomers: acrylonitrile (A), butadiene (B) and styrene (S). It is light ivory, opaque, non-toxic and odorless. The raw materials are easily available, the overall performance is good, the price is cheap, and the uses are wide. Therefore, ABS is one of the most widely used engineering plastics.

Characteristics :

● High mechanical strength, strong impact resistance and good creep resistance;

● It has the characteristics of hardness, toughness and rigidity;

● The surface of ABS plastic parts can be electroplated;

● ABS can be blended with other plastics and rubbers to improve their properties, such as (ABS + PC).

Typical application areas:

Generally used in automobiles, TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and other electrical appliance casings

PC

PC plastic is a hard material, commonly known as bulletproof glass. It is a non-toxic, tasteless, odorless, transparent material that is flammable, but can self-extinguish after being removed from fire.

characteristic:

● It has special toughness and hardness, and has the best impact strength among all thermoplastic materials;

● Excellent creep resistance, good dimensional stability, and high molding accuracy;

● Good heat resistance (120 degrees);

● The disadvantages are low fatigue strength, large internal stress, and easy cracking;

● Plastic parts have poor wear resistance.

Typical application areas:

Electrical and business equipment (computer components, connectors, etc.), appliances (food processors, refrigerator drawers, etc.), transportation industry (vehicle front and rear lights, instrument panels, etc.).

PP

PP soft glue, commonly known as 100% soft glue, is a colorless, transparent or glossy granular material, and is a crystalline plastic.

characteristic:

● Good fluidity and excellent molding performance;

● Excellent heat resistance, can be boiled and sterilized at 100 degrees Celsius;

● High yield strength;

● Good electrical performance;

● Poor fire safety;

● It has poor weather resistance, is sensitive to oxygen, and is susceptible to aging due to the influence of ultraviolet rays.

Typical application areas:

Automotive industry (mainly using PP containing metal additives: fenders, ventilation ducts, fans, etc.), equipment (dishwasher door gaskets, dryer ventilation ducts, washing machine frames and covers, refrigerator door gaskets, etc.), Japan With consumer products (lawn and garden equipment such as lawnmowers and sprinklers, etc.).

ON

PE is one of the more commonly used polymer materials in daily life. It is a white waxy solid, slightly keratinous, odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic. Except for films, other products are opaque. This is because PE has high crystallinity. Because of the degree.

characteristic:

● Resistant to low temperature or cold, corrosion resistant (not resistant to nitric acid), insoluble in general solvents at room temperature;

● Low water absorption, less than 0.01%, excellent electrical insulation;

● Offers high ductility and impact strength as well as low friction.

● Low water permeability but high air permeability, suitable for moisture-proof packaging;

● The surface is non-polar and difficult to bond and print;

● Not UV-resistant and weather-resistant, becoming brittle in sunlight;

● The shrinkage rate is large and it is easy to shrink and deform (shrinkage rate: 1.5~3.0%).

Typical application areas:

It is widely used in the manufacture of plastic bags, plastic films, wire and cable coverings and coatings, etc.

PS

PS, commonly known as hard glue, is a colorless, transparent, glossy granular substance.

characteristic:

● Good optical performance;

● Excellent electrical performance;

● Easy to form and process;

● Good coloring performance;

● The biggest drawback is brittleness;

● Low heat resistance temperature (maximum operating temperature 60~80 degrees Celsius);

● Poor acid resistance.

Typical application areas:

Product packaging, household products (tableware, trays, etc.), electrical (transparent containers, light diffusers, insulating films, etc.)

Well

PA is an engineering plastic, which is composed of polyamide resin, including PA6 PA66 PA610 PA1010, etc.

characteristic:

● Nylon is highly crystalline;

● High mechanical strength and good toughness;

● Has high tensile and compressive strength;

● Outstanding fatigue resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and non-toxic;

● Has excellent electrical properties;

● It has poor light resistance, easily absorbs water, and is not acid-resistant.

Typical application areas:

It is widely used in structural components due to its good mechanical strength and stiffness. Due to its good wear resistance properties, it is also used in the manufacture of bearings.

POM

POM is a hard material and an engineering plastic. Polyoxymethylene has a crystal structure with excellent mechanical properties, high elastic modulus, high rigidity and surface hardness, and is known as a "metal competitor."

characteristic:

● Small friction coefficient, excellent wear resistance and self-lubrication, second only to nylon, but cheaper than nylon;

● Good solvent resistance, especially organic solvents, but not resistant to strong acids, alkalis and oxidants;

● Good dimensional stability and can manufacture precision parts;

● The molding shrinkage is large, the thermal stability is poor, and it is easy to decompose when heated.

Typical application areas:

POM has a very low friction coefficient and good geometric stability, making it particularly suitable for making gears and bearings. Because it also has high temperature resistance, it is also used in pipeline components (pipeline valves, pump housings), lawn equipment, etc.
